Herman Miller Accessories - Ardea Personal Light
Infinite Flexibility
Yves Béhar was inspired by the Ardea, the great herons—elegant birds with long, infinitely flexible necks.
He designed the Ardea light to be infinitely adjustable. Its ingenious neck design lets you easily direct Illumination exactly where you need it on paperwork, a keyboard, or a good book. And like the herons, Ardea is kind in harmony with the earth.
Louis Sullivan said it; Ardea embodies it. Flexible hinges at the base and head are continuous with the rigid structure, allowing for infinite adjustment of the light direction and expanding the range of light output. The Ardea neck can extend from a task position of 18 inches to 34 inches.
A range of attachment brackets allow Ardea to be freestanding, clamped to a work surface, or mounted on panels or rails. The hinges are continuous with the rigid structure, and the aluminum extrusion is twisted in a new, innovative manufacturing process, giving the design stability, as well as a sculptural, organic flow.
The compact fluorescent bulb has a reflector for even illumination distribution in any position. The bulb is encased in a mirror reflector, which provides even light distribution, while the lampshade remains cool.
Ardea was developed for energy efficiency. The compact mini-fluorescent 13-watt bulb is a low consumer of electricity; it uses about one-fourth the power that an incandescent bulb uses, and it lasts three to four times longer. Ardea is made of 12 percent recycled materials and is 84 percent recyclable at the end of its useful life.
